Research Assistant

Comunidad Protectora de Tortugas de Osa (COPROT)

About the Program

We are a grass-roots community-led sea turtle conservation organization that aims to tackle a number of environmental and social issues that occur in the developing Osa Peninsula. We aim to provide employment opportunities to local people in conservation; that would otherwise be involved in environmentally damaging activities (gold-mining; hunting; nest-poaching etc.).

We need Research Assistants (RAs) all throughout the nesting season (June – May) to support our Project Coordinator and local staff with beach monitoring work and data collection on nesting sea turtles. This is a challenging and highly varied role that requires adaptable and resilient individuals that have a true passion for conservation and supporting local communities. It requires long working hours in tropical conditions come rain or shine; with the majority of the field work being conducted at night.

In addition to field work; RAs are also expected to support with the management of volunteers; school groups and tourists on the project; and be able to contribute to and participate in community activities.

To apply; send us a CV and cover letter to tortugasdeosa@gmail.com. In your cover letter please detail your ideal start date and how long you are looking to commit to the project.

Our sea turtle conservation project also looks for regular volunteers.
