We have a small place in the middle of the Andes Mountains; 50km from the closest civilisation; wifi; shops etc. We are very isolated and live off grid. We ask our volunteers to stay for 2 months; with the first month like a probation. From November until the end of April we work with our horses with guests on horse rides in the surrounding mountains. For these months; it’s preferable that volunteers have some experience with horses. The horses need to be cared for and ridden. Also during this time; our 40 huskies are cared for and fed on a daily basis. We have guest cabins so we ask volunteers to help welcome guests and clean the cabins when the guests go. During the winter months our work is purely with the huskies in the snow (NO HORSES). There will be opportunities to go mushing; but principally the volunteers are expected to help with the general care of the huskies and prepare them to run; cut wood; shovel snow and be ready for the unexpected! As a volunteer; you need to be comfortable living in a rustic place without wifi and enjoy working with animals. You will have your own cabin shared with other volunteers equipped with a toilet; wood burning stove and kitchen for breakfast. Hot water for showers and lunch and dinner are in the main house. Particularly during our low seasons; there is plenty of time to experience the surrounding mountains. It’s not a place where we have fixed hours; and like the weather; things and plans can change quickly. It’s not a place for lazy people. I’m afraid we cannot accept vegans – we live very far from the shops and eat what we have in the house (often an asado!)
For summer months it’s helpful if volunteers have experience with horses. For the winter months volunteers need to be prepared to work in the cold. We are in the middle of the mountains.
