Our mission is to support wildlife conservation efforts; domestic animal health and welfare; and the veterinary profession in Belize through medical services; education; research; and collaboration.
We are currently accepting applications for a professional veterinary internship position. Duties and responsibilities include: opening and closing the clinic; performing intake exams; keeping accurate records according to clinic protocols and procedures; answering the phone and responding to general inquiries and walk-ins; learning and practicing equipment functions and procedures; following checklists for cleaning and inventory; cooperating and working closely with interns; students and other veterinarians; providing medical supervision of interns on days without a lead veterinarian present; providing assistance to veterinarians in consultations or surgery; providing veterinary consultations and procedures including surgeries once registered in Belize and according to limitations or restrictions set forth by Belize regulations; providing assistance in spay and neuter clinics in local communities (one weekend day every two weeks) or at the clinic.
Additional project driven tasks include the assistance in the development of the following: clinic checklists; development of clinic manual; phone manual; intern manual; client information leaflets; record keeping; any other task that is assigned or required by your supervisor. Any employee is expected to willingly assist a co-worker when requested.
This position is designed for interns who would like to contribute to conservation and/or would like to benefit from the significant opportunities for unique professional experience which distinguishes one from other veterinarians.

Doctor of veterinary medicine and experience with wildlife is required. Applicants without prior experience could do a 6 week pre-professional internship with us before starting professional internship. There is a probationary period of 6 weeks. Candidates must be committed to participating in and fostering close teamwork and must be able to demonstrate good communication skills and the ability to work with a wide variety of people.
The intern receives free housing with utilities and the opportunity to participate in extracurricular activities and excursions with students and interns.
