Child Protection Officer

Save the Children International in Bolivia

About the Program

We are the world’s leading independent organisation for children. Our mission is to inspire breakthroughs in the way the world treats children; and to achieve immediate and lasting change in their lives.

We have worked in Bolivia since 1985 to improve the lives of the most vulnerable and marginalised children and young adults throughout rural and urban Bolivia. We promote child participation and collaborate with partners to deliver quality programs within areas such as Early Child Development and Care; School Health and Nutrition; Disaster Risk Reduction; Maternal and Child Health; Reproductive Health; Youth in Conflict with the Law; and Working Children.

The Child Safeguarding Officer will work under the supervision and in close collaboration with the National Focal Point for Child Protection.

Save the Children is a rights-based organization. It is in the heart of the organization to implement projects and programs that safeguard and promote child rights. In Bolivia many laws that protect child rights are in place; first and foremost the Child Code (law 548). However; implementation and protection mechanisms still fail to ensure child protection in practice. This is related to high staff turnover rates within the public system; the lack of adequate skills of personnel working in the area of child protection and the lack of public awareness regarding child rights. This is why Save the Children in Bolivia encourages and drives forward strategies and action that promote public policies which safeguard child rights and that enhance the knowledge and skills of communities; families; children and adolescents to ensure that they are protected.

The Child Safeguarding Officer will:

  • Prepare; write and coordinate the design of a user friendly version of the Child Safeguarding Policy which is to be distributed among key state actors;  partners and families
  • Prepare a new design of the roadmap one has to follow in case of a violation or suspicion of a violation of the Child Safeguarding Policy
  • Support;  organize and give training workshops on the Child Safeguarding Policy to SCI’s partner institutions
  • Organize and give refreshment training workshops on the Child Safeguarding Policy
  • Support partner institution in the drafting process of their proper Child Safeguarding Policies.

The Intern will be based in the office in La Paz; however; the post requires frequent travel throughout the country.

Interested candidates should send their CV and cover letter to bolivia@savethechildren.org
