We were founded to assist in the conservation and rehabilitation of wildlife; working in coordination with native people from the area. Our centre rescues and re-homes animals that were the product of animal trafficking; and rehabilitates them so they may be released to restock areas (where ecologically sound) or serve to raise awareness and educate people through the centres education plan. The unique location allows the centre to undertake scientific investigation in a variety of fields relating to Amazon conservation.
We are seeking an experienced veterinarian and the general help of volunteers.
We require a vet to provide healthcare to our primates; as well as a few domestic animals. Duties to include but not limited to: health checks; management of any health issues; faecal analysis; observations; record keeping; vaccinations; assisting with animal husbandry of any animals in quarantine or clinic.
We have 20 monkeys (four different species) and are working towards forming a release group; meaning the role will grow to include reintroduction or repopulation back to the wild.
We also work with local communities; so the role will include assistance with animals kept in indigenous villages as and when the need arises.
We are a fairly new sanctuary; therefore there is likely to be a need to assist in other areas when time allows; along with general housekeeping tasks if staying long term. Short term appointments will be considered until the position is filled permanently.
General volunteers assist with construction and maintenance and gardening. The work involves helping the community with whatever needs doing. They also work with the monkeys. The work varies depending on how long the volunteer stays. If they stay for one week the work will be minimal (e.g. cleaning cages and preparing meals). If they stay for a month the work will be much more in depth such as taking monkeys for walks in the jungle to find natural fruit trees; giving meals; etc.
