Fair Trade Volunteer

Fundación Chol-Chol

About the Program

We are a non-profit organization helping improve the quality of life of rural; Mapuche families from Southern Chile. We achieve this by strengthening their social and economic development and their cultural recognition.

We market textile pieces entirely hand-made and according to ancient Mapuche techniques of wool-spinning; natural dyes; and weaving on the traditional loom.

Our volunteer program is free and open to both Chilean and foreign volunteers who are professionals or university students who; for no charge; will work with programs that need support and that lack sufficient resources to hire more staff. We provide a comfortable work environment that reflects the warmth of the Chilean and Mapuche cultures.

The availability of volunteer jobs changes over time; but the following areas receive ongoing support:

  • Business / Fair Trade
  • Marketing
  • Communications
  • Product Design
  • Micro-Credit
  • Preservation of Mapuche Cultural Identity
  • Preservation of Native Species used for Dyeing
  • Project Formulation and Development
  • Searching for Funding (through international; private or government cooperation)

We offer assistance in locating accommodation and offer orientation upon arrival.
