Winter Help on Husky Farm

Aurora Austral

About the Program

We are a young company offering sled dog trips to tourists from all over the world. We have 53 dogs; cats; sheep; alpaca and 4 cabins we rent out.

We look for volunteer help in the winter; from the beginning of June through September. As a volunteer of our Husky Farm you are responsible for the well-being of our animals and guests.

We will show you everything around the work with sled dogs up to riding your own sled and guide tours. The daily work consists mainly of everything around the tours we offer; of feeding and cleaning the dogs and taking care of our guests. There’s daily farm work to do as well as you will learn everything about dog training; maintenance; racing and living off the grid.

The way we live is not totally conventional; thus you should come with an open mind; not restricted to the normal ‘work hours’ experienced in Europe/USA.

Even though we will train you to be a sled guide; sledding will not be the main aspect of your work. To be a good guide you need to know the dogs; your sled; your equipment and feel safe on the sled before you can go and help others. This will certainly need some time and training! Tasks at the husky farm: taking care of the dogs; feeding; cleaning the kennels and the farm; training the dogs and assisting with tours and guests. If you have special skills like cooking; building; construction; even better!

Tasks in the house: we share household and duties; laundry; cooking; doing the dishes; bringing wood for the fireplace; cleaning and preparing the guest houses.

Working days here are long and the conditions can be pretty tough; so if you choose to come here; please expect a challenging adventure as opposed to a relaxing holiday. We use fires for heating so lots of wood cutting and safe fires to be made! The keener and the harder working volunteers get far more out of this experience than lazy people. We have no place for people sitting on the sofa playing games on the phones!!

If hard work; dirt; wind; rain and snow do not harm you and if you are open minded; outdoor experienced and positive with good social skills; then please contact us.

Only apply if you can stay for the complete winter season; at least 3 months.

There are summer positions open from time to time; if you are interested pleases contact us.
