El Habitante is a culture house in Ciénaga; Colombia. The house is our social enterprise that allows us to run programs and activities for the local community through our NGO. At the house we offer our volunteers the opportunity to partake in a cultural exchange of language; dance and music while they live in an affordable and beautiful home in the city centre. The house is our community home-base where we run programs and activities five days a week for the local community of Ciénaga. Our volunteers have the option to teach English and/or French; and/or co-instruct dance; soccer and music classes. In a country marked by numerous social challenges; we bet on games to generate belonging; promote autonomy and generate hope in children; youth and adolescents. By using games as a tool to develop valuable life skills; we seek to inspire our participants to be agents for change within their communities. The only cost associated with our volunteer program is the cost of your housing which we can offer directly in our culture house – ‘El Habitante’ for $35 000 COP which is approximately $8 USD.
