We welcome international volunteers to patrol the beach with local turtle guides to protect sea turtles. As a volunteer; you would work closely with our association to patrol the beaches at night; learn to identify turtle tracks; find nesting turtles; count the number of eggs; record tag numbers; assist with relocating the eggs into their hatchery; and help to release the baby turtles back to the ocean. Other activities can include helping in our recycling centre; teaching English; doing arts and crafts with the village children; or designing community improvement projects based on personal skills and interests.
The Leatherbacks nest on our beach from the beginning of March through June; and the Green turtles nest from July through September. Baby turtles (tortugitas) are released to the ocean from May through November.
Spanish lessons are offered by people in the village. We also offer research assistant/co-coordinator positions (2 month minimum commitment). Accommodation is available at our field station which has a full kitchen at a cost of US$300 per month (no meals included ) plus aUS$50 one-time registration fee.

Volunteers can choose between different types of accommodation: volunteer house (US$40 per day with meals or US$20 per day without meals); homestay (US$35 per day including meals) or hotel cabins (US$20 per day; some with meals included). Volunteers staying in hotel cabins pay also pay a daily participation fee (US$10 per day).
