Volunteering Abroad Shouldn't Cost the Earth

Horse Rescue Project Costa Rica

Description

We are a little family rescue project. Our goal is offer a second life to the beloved horses that we have rescued and guarantee them all the care and attention they deserve. Each horse has lived a different history and for this reason, as an individual, needs different care and attention which it is essential to respect every single day. We offer natural horsemanship, Equino therapy, clinics and natural horseback riding tour in which the respect for the horse is a fundamental and non-negotiable requirement. Our approach is always oriented towards love, kindness and the respect for the correct human-horse communication, essential for building a relationship of trust. Horses are not just part of this project, they are our family. The horseback riding tours we offer are the way that allow us to guarantee and support the high cost of feeding the horses and the veterinary attention they require. Each entrance is invested entirely to guarantee the present and future well-being of our 4-legs friends, with great concern for those who due to age or health, are or will be soon retired. Our little simple stable, is made from an equine family of 8 horses, but we are working for a new dream of creating a private reserve, that will allow us to have a large space suitable for accommodating and saving more and more horses or all the furry and feathered friends who will need it.

Other information:
Taking care and working with horses is a demanding and tiring activity that can give a lot of satisfaction but above all requires great efforts and daily sacrifices. Ours is a 24-hour, 7-day-a-week job. This commitment is obviously NOT required to the volunteers or those who collaborate with us, but it is always important to bear in mind that the effort our 4-legged friends need is enormous, constant and daily. Work with horses requires passion, love, humility, professionalism, constant desire to learn and to question oneself every moment. Being located in the paradisiacal Caribbean area of Costa Rica is indisputably a unique privilege in the world, but we must also consider that the unpredictable and sometimes extreme climate, the logistics, the unpredictable events and sometimes even the difficulty and high costs necessary to find quality products for horses that are discounted in other places, implies incredible efforts, more work and great problem solving skills. Hard work, love and dedication and good public relations skills are required to everyone, as our project can only sustain itself mainly thanks to the customers who participate in our tours. The tours commit us to a constant effort not only in the preparation, train and care of the horses, but also in accompanying different people, some experts and others totally beginners, some interested in the well-being of the horses, others unfortunately in just having fun to which it is always however, essential, to convey respect for horses and the main and non-negotiable reasons of our project with education, sensitivity and professionalism. Working with horses and on tours in the Caribbean means returning home with an incredible experience, lot of knowledge and with a heart full of love, but also tired, wet, covered by hair, sand and mud. We are in the rain forest, heavy rains can be common as well as days of extreme heat and sun. Our wonderful Caribbean sea can transform itself from a lake of water to a stormy ocean in just few minutes. Some days our beaches are wide and relaxing and others wild, difficult path. If you love horses, nature, the Caribbean, the contact with the people, if you want to make the difference, if you want to learn, and demanding work doesn't scare you, this is the place for you.
