Our beachfront; off-the-grid; eco-friendly hostel offers guests the opportunity to escape the hustle and bustle of the city and to refresh in an isolated island setting. Guests enjoy prime views of the ocean and beach sunsets to the west; and volcanoes and sunrises to the east. The hostel strikes the perfect balance for everyone – you can chill out while enjoying the island’s natural beauty or surf; play beach volleyball; sit at our bar and lounge for a few cocktails.
Our beachfront lodge is only 20 minutes from the historic city of Leon; Nicaragua and a 5 minute boat ride from the beach town of Poneloya. We are the only Island solar powered hostel on Nicaragua’s Pacific Coast.
We have three cabanas; two private rooms; and two dorms. The lodge includes a restaurant; swing bar & lounge; surf school; massage and other activities.
Volunteers are asked to work 35 hours a week; morning; afternoon and evening shifts. Work includes running the bar; serving guests; running volleyball tournaments everyday; running events and games; making sure customers are happy; renting out equipment and overall making Surfing Turtle Lodge the best place to be in Nicaragua. Volunteers mustn’t be shy and must be able to deal with big groups.

Volunteers receive a free accommodation and three meals a day. They are also allowed to use equipment and participate in activities; like horseback riding and surfing; free of charge when guests are not using them.
