Alternative School Peru
Description
The project was born out of witnessing the many inequalities and social conflicts such as low educational attainment and attendance, youth crime, teen pregnancy, and domestic violence. We develop socio-educational assistance projects for children, youth and families at risk of social exclusion.
There are different roles available for volunteers.
Teaching and helping out at the project in the morning:
There are 3 classes, a class of 3-year-old kids, 4-5-year-old kids, and a class of 6 years old and above. You can choose where you would like to help. You don’t need to be a professional teacher, but you need loads of love towards the kids, they are going to return it to you. You don’t need to be fluent in Spanish but you need basic language to be able to communicate with them. You are not going to be left alone with a whole class, but it is good if you can take the initiative and bring your ideas what and how you would want to teach to the kids. We are currently working on specific timetables and curriculum. The main focus here will be reading and writing, mathematics and English.
Helping out at the project in the afternoon:
Here you will support the kids with their homework and their material they learnt at the public school or at our project.
Teaching English at the public school:
We are looking for volunteers who would teach English in a public school for mostly beginners. You would mostly teach a whole class with one or two other volunteers. You also need basic Spanish for this one. The minimum commitment for this job is one month. This project is only available from March to December.
Volunteer coordinators:
We are looking for 1 to 2 long-term volunteers for coordinators. The minimum commitment for this job is 5 months.
